Pricing and review points
Paid checkout is not live. Crucible is in early access — invite-only. The plans and point rules below are the intended commercial structure. You cannot buy a subscription or a top-up pack on this site yet. Request access if you would like to try the product, or see the coming-soon plans.
What is a review point?
A point is how Crucible meters a review (or a response — both run the same pipeline). Grant vs. manuscript does not change the cost. The model tier does:
- Quick — 1 point
- Balanced (the default) — 3 points
- Deep — 10 points
So 60 points is about 20 Balanced reviews, or 6 Deep reviews, or any mix.
How many points does each plan grant?
- Free — 1 point per month, plus a one-time 5-point signup bonus (enough for a first Balanced review).
- Personal — 60 points per month ($39/mo).
- Lab — 60 points per seat per month, pooled across the lab ($33/seat/mo, 3-seat minimum).
Invited early-access accounts today receive a 60-point monthly grant so you can actually use the product. The 1-point Free grant is the intended public Free tier at paid launch.
When does a new month start?
On the anniversary of your account (or, once paid plans ship, your subscription) — not the first of the calendar month. If you join on the 24th, your period runs from the 24th to the 24th.
Do unused points carry over?
- Personal, Lab, and current closed-beta 60-point grants — unused monthly plan points last up to about 6 months from when they were granted, and the unused plan bank is capped at about twice your monthly allotment (Personal about 120 points; Lab about 2× the pooled monthly grant). If you cancel, leftover plan points freeze at the end of the paid period and thaw if you resubscribe before they expire.
- True Free (1 point per month and the signup bonus) — unused points expire at the end of the period. They do not carry.
What are top-up packs?
When paid launch ships, Personal and Lab subscribers will be able to buy extra points — intended packs are 20 points for $19, 50 for $45, and 100 for $85. You need an active subscription to buy a pack. Free accounts cannot.
Top-up points last 12 months from purchase. If you unsubscribe, leftover top-up points freeze — they are not taken away — and become spendable again if you resubscribe before they expire.
What happens if I cancel?
You can keep spending through the end of the period you have already paid for — cancel takes effect at period end, not the day you click cancel. After that date, leftover monthly plan points freeze (they are not deleted or taken away). They are not spendable while you are unsubscribed. If you resubscribe, they thaw and are usable again until six months after they were originally granted — the same carry window as while subscribed. Past that clock they expire even if they were still frozen. No new monthly grant while cancelled. The unused plan bank cap (about 2× monthly) still applies when thawed. Purchased top-up points are unchanged: they also freeze while unsubscribed and expire 12 months from purchase.
